5 Reasons to Visit Ibiza in September on a Luxury Yacht Charter

By Rebecca Bradbury   18 August 2016

If you are yet to book your summer vacation, you should consider a yacht charter to Ibiza in September when, free of the throngs of tourists and party-goers, the Spanish isle truly comes into its own.

One of four Balearic Islands located off eastern Spain, Ibiza has become a favourite among the superyacht set in recent years as its focus shifts from the underground party scene to VIP beach clubs, five-star restaurants and a unique offering of upmarket hedonism.

The island also wows with its stunning scenery, among which yacht-goers can unwind in exclusive privacy. Expect glittering waters, beautiful bays, secluded coves and sun-kissed beaches as well as an idyllic interior of verdant pine forests and fragrant almond trees.

And although most popular during the months of July and August, this jewel of the Mediterranean does, in fact, make a wonderful late-summer charter destination and not just because of the last-minute deals.

Here YachtCharterFleet rounds up five reasons to visit Ibiza in September on a luxury yacht charter.

On the White Isle, beautiful, sunny days continue well beyond the peak summer months of the charter season. Throughout September visitors enjoy just under eight hours of sunshine per day as well as temperatures ranging from a pleasant 21°C to a glorious 25°C.

Indeed, September offers a welcome relief from the hot and sticky months of July and August, making on-land exploration a much more attractive prospect.

Whether hiking scenic coastal routes or cycling through the verdant pine forests, visitors can do so while avoiding soaring temperatures.

The coastal waters, however, remain at a warm 26°C, meaning yacht-goers can continue to bask on the beach and take a dip in the azure waters as autumn approaches.

Throughout the high season, Ibiza’s best beaches throng with tourists. However, once the holidaymakers have gone home, the natural beauty of these coastal hotspots can be appreciated to their fullest.

Among the most popular of the island’s 80 beaches is the iconic Las Salinas, where the long expanse of golden sand and its chiringuitos still buzz with life well into September, but without the stifling crowds.

Likewise the upmarket beach of Cala Jondal is at its best when its sparkling turquoise waters, and idyllic backdrop of red, rocky cliffs and lush pine forests take centre stage over the high-end party-goers. Plus, there is more chance of securing a table at one of the exclusive restaurants that line the dazzling sands.

Those after a more secluded bathing spot, however, may even have the island’s lesser-known gems to themselves. Try out the tiny, horseshoe-shaped bay of Cola Xuclar replete with wild charm, the rustic offering of Cala Salada or hidden paradise, Sa Caleta.

Yacht-goers wanting to experience Ibiza’s renowned nightlife will be pleased to hear that the hippest bars remain open throughout the low season and the legendary clubs host spectacular closing parties that reach their climax in early October.

Many of the big clubs open up outdoor arenas to offer a unique clubbing experience and big-name DJs return for one last time, spinning the songs that defined the summer and seeing the season off in style.

Among the famous venues to be seen at are Pacha, one of the island’s oldest clubbing institutions; Privilege, billed as the ‘World’s Biggest Club’; DC-10, the home of underground electronic music and Ibiza Rocks Hotel, which attracts top music acts such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian and Tinie Temper.

For an authentic taste of Ibiza, it is best visited once the crowds have dispersed. Discover the isle’s whitewashed villages, quaint hamlets, historical sites and idyllic coastline which, exuding a laidback charm, are sure to leave you fully rejuvenated and refreshed.

Quieter waters means charter guests can experience Ibiza’s world-class dive sites to their fullest, including Las Salinas, a protected eco-system that stretches from the south east of the isle to its neighbour Formentera.

Other highlights include the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dalt Vila, a stunning example of classic Renaissance architecture in Ibiza Town, as well as the capital’s picturesque harbour.

There are also plenty of boutiques and markets to discover, and don't miss the spectacular sunsets.

September is a month full of wonderful festivals on the isle of Ibiza. Known to the locals as fiestas, the events commemorate the Patron Saint of each town, a long-standing tradition throughout Hispanic culture.

For example, the small town of Jesus, situated just a few kilometres outside of Ibiza Town, comes alive on September 8th as islanders celebrate the Patron Saint’s day of Jesus.

Traditional dancing and a parade of horse drawn carts take place in front of the 15th-century church, while a programme of chess tournaments, wine making demonstrations, clay pigeon shooting, organised walks and mountain bike trials runs throughout the town and its surrounds.

Meanwhile, the tiny village of San Mateo celebrates its Patron Saint’s Day on September 21st and sees parades, folk dancing, live music, and much feasting and drinking throughout its picturesque streets.
