Video: Brand New 70m Heesen Superyacht 'Galactica Super Nova' Underway

By Oliver Pearson   20 May 2016

Following her highly anticipated delivery earlier this week, footage has emerged of the 70m/230ft motor yacht ‘Galactica Super Nova’ as she underwent her sea trials in the North Sea back in March.

Showcasing her efficient and brightly coloured Fast Displacement Hull Form, the latest footage of Galactica Super Nova shows her effortlessly cutting through the water ahead of her delivery.

Taken from a circling helicopter, the footage also reveals more of her harmonious exterior as it gets up close from various different angles.

With such a wide range of profile shots to take in, and learning more regarding her performance, it’s no wonder that Galactica Super Nova is currently generating plenty of enthusiasm across the industry.

Quite literally on the cutting edge of design, Galactica Super Nova could well serve as the blueprint for certain luxury yachts of the future

No doubt the talking point of the video is the bright red displacement feature which was pioneered by Van Oossanen Naval Architects.

Not simply a means of improving the speed of the vessel- though it assuredly does this impressively- the Fast Displacement Hull Form is a concept which was born out of the desire to create a more efficient shape.

Significantly reducing wave reduction and improving the seakeeping of M/Y Galactica Super Nova, the feature is bound to garner a lot of attention, and could well set a precedent for future superyachts.
