Singapore Yacht Show Judged A Roaring Success

By Oliver Pearson   21 April 2016

Propelled by the success of its second event last year, the Singapore Yacht Show has been considered as a hugely positive step towards establishing the charter markets in both Singapore and South East Asia more broadly.

Bringing together captains of industry and a highly discerning crowd, the Singapore Yacht Show 2016 lived up to all the anticipation as it took place over four days at the One°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove.

Showcasing everything from the latest gadgets in marine technology to large motor yachts, the show was something of a celebration of the laws various governments in the region have relaxed in order to cooperate with the industry.

Whilst touring the vessels and poring over the many exhibitions, there’s no doubt that attendees were thinking regularly about the potential for a luxury charter vacation in such a uniquely fascinating part of the world.

What’s more, ambassadors from leading shipyards such as Lurssen, Amels, Benetti and Feadship were in attendance, clearly keen to establish themselves in Singapore after recognising the many advantages the destination offers to the modern charterer. Indeed, as the meeting place of various rich cultures, and home to a great many cruising grounds, there’s every reason to presume Singapore will continue to become one of the leading attractions of South East Asia.

We are gradually getting the universal support from the industry, we are working with great partners at the One°15 Marina Club, and we have every confidence that 2017 will, indeed, be even better than 2016

Andy Treadwell, Managing Director of the Singapore Yacht Show

Following the show, a number of shipyards and suppliers commented on the way the event had generated a serious amount of interest, and it would seem that everyone is forecasting a bright future for the island city.

This should come as no surprise when you consider how, seen from a luxury superyacht, Singapore is a sight unlike any other. More specifically, where else in the world combines so many colours and architecture along its coastal skyline?

As the infrastructure in South East Asia goes from strength to the strength, and with events like the Singapore Yacht Show producing considerable traction, it will be well worth having your eyes firmly trained on the region.
