Sailing Yachts Gather for Les Voiles de Saint Barth 2017

By Rebecca Bradbury   4 April 2017

An impressive fleet of sailing yachts will assemble in the beautiful waters of Saint Barth in time for the eighth edition of Les Voiles de Saint Barth, which gets underway next week on Monday 10th April.

Attracting an ever-expanding list of competitors, the popular regatta is expected to welcome close to 70 sailing yachts and 1,200 sailors, among which are a combination of amateur crews and some of the world’s best names in sailing.

An opening ceremony on Monday evening will be followed by four days of intense racing. The natural obstacles around the Caribbean island of St Barth and its breathtaking coastal landscapes offer participants a magical experience, enhanced by the tropical sun and steady trade winds.

Combining competition on the water with conviviality on shore, the meet has a lively social scene, with concerts and special events taking place each night in the race village for the pleasure of sailors and the local population alike.

Winners of each class will be presented with their prizes at an awards ceremony on Saturday 15th April, and this will be followed by fireworks and live music to conclude the event in style.

Among those to watch out for at the upcoming Les Voiles de Saint Barth are three charter yachts, including the 22m/72ft sailing yacht PH3, which returns to the regatta in 2017 for the second year in a row.

A 2013 flagship-build, she also plans to compete at Les Voiles de St Tropez, running in the French Riviera from 30th September to 8th October 2017, and is available throughout the summer in Mediterranean hotspots for charter vacations.

Southern Wind’s 29m/94ft sailing yacht WINDFALL will be making an appearance too. Performance is at the heart of this 2013-launch and, with cutting-edge technology and a maximum speed of 26 knots, she is expected to be a fierce competitor.

Successful regatta regular, the 35m/115ft charter yacht SOJANA from Green Marine, will also be putting her racing prowess into action. One of the largest yachts in attendance, she will be unmissable cutting through the water when the racing gets underway.
