Round-Up of the Singapore Yacht Show 2017

By Rebecca Bradbury   10 April 2017

The seventh edition of the Singapore Yacht Show (SYS) drew to a close yesterday after a successful four days of superyacht showcases, boat builder exhibitions and exciting social events at Singapore’s ONE°15 Marina.

An official opening ceremony kicked off proceedings in spectacular style on Thursday 6th April. VIP attendees were welcomed at the ONE°15 Marina before the action moved down to the docks for a lion dance and ribbon cutting ceremony, and the traditional sounding of horns signalled the doors were open.

There was also a press conference aboard the 41m/135ft charter yacht ‘Ocean Emerald - one of the must-see yachts in attendance. Taking part in a panel discussion were Mike Simpson, CEO and founder of Simpson Marine; Andy Treadwell, CEO and founder of SYS; Arthur Tay, CEO and chairman of SUTL Enterprise, and Farouk Nefzi, marketing and brand director at Feadship.

Speaking of the event, Treadwell said, “This year’s show is bigger than last year. We’ve got around 95 boats at the moment. As you can see it’s a spectacular marina, it’s relatively small but perfect for this show.”

Conversation also turned to how, although very much in its infancy, the yacht industry in South East Asia and the wider region is evolving, with yachting a brilliant way to attract high-end tourism.

One of the highlights was undoubtedly the 77m/253ft charter yacht ‘Silver Fast’. Visually striking, her silver hue and extremely sleek lines were turning heads throughout the marina and, those lucky enough to step aboard, were equally wowed by her state-of-art amenities and contemporary interior.

As well as the superyacht display, there was also boat launches, a line-up of super cars, exhibitions from renowned shipyards from across the globe, an on-water demonstration platform, and showcases from luxury lifestyle brands and regional real estate agencies.

Much emphasis was also placed on social events, parties and entertainment. An official Singapore Yacht Show welcome party was followed by a SYS & Yisin Chinese Regal Night and a closing party, and there was a mixologist experience, whisky cigar bar and pop-up Champagne lounge.

Boat builders such as Princess Yachts, Ferretti and Azimut hosted their own exclusive events too, putting on cocktail parties, sunset event and alcohol tastings.
