Although a renowned superyacht vacation destination and home to one of the industry’s biggest yacht shows, Miami has been lacking in facilities for superyachts but this is set to change with a brand new marina project now under construction.
It was announced earlier this year by the organisers of the Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show that the 2015 ‘Superyacht Miami’ display will be held in a brand new luxury development. The Island Gardens Deep Harbour Marina will feature a selection of the show’s largest superyachts, including some impressive luxury charter yachts, ranging from 45m/150ft to over 121m/400ft in length. Throughout the year, the new facility will offer between 35 and 75 much needed superyacht berths to accommodate vessels in the 24m/80ft to 146m/480ft.

The 2015 show will be taking place in February and although the project has only just got underway, the developers at the Flagstone Property Group have confirmed that the marina will be ready in time. The $640 million Island Gardens is being constructed on Watson Island – a man-made island in Biscayne Bay, Miami. As one of the only marinas in North America designed specifically for superyachts, it will also feature two luxury hotels, designer boutiques and world-class waterfront restaurants.
There will also be floating piers to serve visiting day boats plus a fleet of water taxis linking Island Gardens to the harbour between South Beach and downtown Miami. With a selection of well-known museums and galleries, beautiful Art Deco architecture and energetic Latin influences offered ashore, Miami continues to be one of the world’s most exciting destinations and this new development will further help charterers to enjoy year-round vacations in the region.
