LIVE From The Red Carpet: Mediterranean Yacht Show 2016 Officially Underway

By Oliver Pearson   7 May 2016

Following months of anticipation, this year’s Mediterranean Yacht Show has just been declared open in Nafplion, Greece.

Ahead of registration earlier on this morning, the editorial team at YachtCharterFleet made their way from Athens to the historic seaport town of Nafplio in order to attend the Mediterranean Yacht Show 2016.

In typically Mediterranean fashion, the weather is on the side of the event organisers this year, and everywhere around there’s a palpable sense of eagerness as both brokers and press await their viewings of highly prized superyachts.

Also on hand to capture the attentions of attendees is the list of elite businesses exhibiting throughout the day. Indeed, when not aboard the yachts, guests will be able to place themselves in the company of art dealers, marine specialists, and an array of other luxury service providers.

Later on this evening, an opening ceremony is due to take place in the charming port of Nafplion, and, a little while later, a further celebration at the Palamidi Fortress, a seventeenth century structure which offers commanding views over the town.

Everywhere around the Mediterranean Yacht Show is the sense of an event fully in its stride

Walking down the red carpet which fringes the edge of the port, it could not be more obvious that the Show, now in its third year, is totally into the swing of things.

From the conveniently designed layout to the hospitality provided to the attending professionals, it’s clear that the GYA have undertaken every effort to ensure that their event lives up to the glamour of other important dates in the superyacht calendar.

Stopping to take in the sights this time around is perhaps more special than it has been before, however. A suitably Greek affair, the editorial team were treated to views of the impressive profile of the 72m/236ft motor yacht ‘O’Pari 3’ as well as the broad swim platform belonging to the 54m/175ft luxury yacht ‘Mia Rama’.
