By Editorial team  30 April 2019

Feadship’s new Amsterdam yacht building facility is to be officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Máxima on the 16th of May.

The new state-of-the-art yard in Makkum will allow Feadship to build a next-generation of larger superyachts as well as develop its refit business. The facility is some 166m long with a 140m dry dock, creating the space to build longer, wider and taller vessels.

As well as the yard itself, new offices and support facilities are planned with a renewed focus given to sustainable and innovative yacht build and design.

Not only will this help future-proof Feadship’s status as one of the world’s leading superyacht manufacturers but it will also boost local employment opportunities as well as the port of Amsterdam itself.

Feadship is formed of two shipyards, De Vries and Royal Van Lent, as well as a separate design and naval architecture business. Henk de Vries, director of the De Vries yard said, “This development involves a considerable investment, securing the future for generations to come. The community of Makkum has very close ties with this yard."

The opening of the new facility also forms part of the 170-year celebrations of Royal Van Lent, which can trace its roots back to 1849.

During her visit to the new Feadship yard, Queen Máxima will be shown a selection of classic yachts that are part of the Feadship Heritage Fleet. Her Majesty will also be given a short presentation on the history of Royal Van Lent and meet staff members who have been trained by the Feadship Academy.

Feadship has been responsible for some of the world's most iconic and spectacular superyachts, including the charter yachts SAVANNAH, AQUARIUS and AIR.
