8 Day Turkey Charter Itinerary - Gocek to Gocek
8 Days Cruising the Turquoise Coast
Ideal for Summer Season
Be seduced by the wonders of Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, resplendent in picturesque coves, ancient ruins, secluded beaches, picturesque villages and sparkling waters teaming with fascinating sea creatures. Against the backdrop of majestic mountains and verdant pine forests, discover what makes this stretch of coast such a popular luxury yacht charter destination.
- Day 1
Gocek to Gocek Island
Gocek is a small village in an idyllic setting, located in the corner of a well-protected bay with pine-covered hills. Backed by majestic mountains and substantial pine forests, it looks out over the Twelve Islands and offers one of the most picturesque sceneries in Turkey. The Twelve Islands also provide further shelter for Gocek’s circular bay, making the village a perfect natural harbour. After a welcome cocktail, sail to Gocek Island for a quiet night and dinner on board.
- Day 2
Gocek Island - Oludeniz - Gemiler Island
Cruise to Oludeniz, a beautiful inland bay which can be visited using the yacht’s dinghy. With high mountains sweeping down to the shore and golden sand, this lagoon is a scenic must. It is ideal for a nice swim and water sports.
In the late afternoon, cruise to Gemiler, an island surrounded by an amphitheatre of mountains and home to Byzantine remains. Gemiler Island is filled with ruins. Among the medieval buildings on the island is a church and on the hill are the ruins of a palace decorated with mosaics. There are cisterns and wells on the island too. On the northern side are the remains of a quay and warehouse that are now partially submerged.
The side of the island facing the mainland is suitable for anchorage. Para-sailing here offers a uniquely dramatic view of the beautiful terrain in this area. According to local folklore, the island used to be a pirate stronghold; given its strategic location on this lonely bit of coast, with the high hills providing a perfect look-out for approaching ships, it would seem a likely base for the conspiring pirate.
Enjoy a barbecue party ashore.
- Day 3
Gemiler Island - Kas
Sail to the charming village of Kas (Ancient Antiphellos) early in the morning.
In Kas, you can experience the amazing wonders of forest, sea, history and art, all at once. There, you will also be able to satisfy your desire for calm by discovering several pristine natural areas. It is also the perfect location for outdoor activities such as sea kayaking, scuba-diving, hiking or mountain biking.
During the day, it is quiet and very relaxed. There are a couple of very small beaches. At night, the village comes to life with several excellent restaurants and lively bars that are open late into the night.
- Day 4
Kas - Kekova (Kale)
Kekova Island is known as the sunken city; as you cruise along the island’s shore, you can look down through the crystal clear water at the ruins of houses and other buildings of the Byzantine city that ran along the coast.
You will cruise around Kekova Island to the picturesque village of Simena, a charming town that has remained almost unchanged for many years. The crusader castle above the town offers a magnificent view of the Kekova area. There are century-old olives trees found next to stone sarcophagi which are shaped like houses.
Have lunch and make various swimming and snorkelling stops to unspoiled bays in the area, such as Aquarium Bay, Tersane Bay (an ancient shipyard with remains of a Byzantine Church), Gokkaya Bay and Burc Bay.
- Day 5
Kekova - Kalkan
After breakfast, sail to Kalkan, a pretty fishing village, offering a good choice of antique and carpet shops.
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon swimming in the turquoise waters.
- Day 6
Kalkan (Xanthos, Patara & Letoon)
Regular mini buses provide the best way to reach the ancient cities and historic sites of Patara and Xanthos. These visits will take the whole day.
Xanthos is the birthplace of Bishop Nicholas of Myra. Letoon is an ancient city with temples of Apollo, Artemis and Leto and the ruins of an Hellenistic Theatre.
- Day 7
Sarsala - Gocek
Sarsala, a striking pine-surrounded bay, is perfect for swimming and kayaking. It is also a convenient starting point for a 45-minute hike to the ancient city of Lissa, remarkable for the grand positioning of its acropolis above a fresh-water lake.
In the evening, you may try one of the fresh fish restaurants in the charming village of Göcek for dinner.
- Day 8
