World’s largest yacht REV OCEAN optimistic for 2024 delivery

By Nina Done   23 June 2021

In a recent press release, her team have announced that due to technical and weight issues caused by the Vard Brattvåg shipyard in Norway, where the expedition yacht REV OCEAN is currently under construction, there is expected to be a further 3-5 year delay before she is fully compliant and ready for delivery.

Whilst these delays have been through no fault of their own, the communique made it clear that REV Ocean’s ambition for ‘One Healthy Ocean’ will remain at the forefront of everything they do. They have already indicated their intentions to use the delay constructively to ‘fill critical knowledge gaps, develop innovative solutions and bridge science, business and policy sectors’ to promote and implement their overarching mission for ocean conservation.

‘One Healthy Ocean’

YachtCharterFleet had the pleasure of being hosted onboard this phenomenal yacht last summer, and gained some valuable insights into this incredible and ambitious project.

Expedition yacht REV OCEAN in Vard, Norway

REV OCEAN will be a state-of-the-art expedition vessel committed to pioneering oceanographic research, which the owner hopes will not only leave a long-term legacy for the oceans but also act as a catalyst for change for current and future yacht owners.

His mission is simple: save the seas, and he hopes that REV OCEAN will pave the way for a new era of superyacht, with a strong emphasis on ocean welfare.

State-of-the-art research facilities

Covering an area of approximately 4,000m², which equates to roughly 15 tennis courts, it is anticipated she will have no less than 6 cutting-edge research laboratories with the latest scientific equipment, a fully-equipped dive centre with its own decompression chamber and air nitrox system, drop keels with sensitive hydrophones for listening to marine mammals and pelagic sampling capabilities via an extensive trawl cable enabling scientists to safely catch and release specimens up to 3,000 metres below the surface of the sea.

In addition, she will have 2 certified helipads for helicopter surveys, transport and drone use, a 36-seater auditorium with Dolby sound for lectures and a vast 7.7m by 5m ‘moon pool’, for launching a range of submersibles, both autonomous and remotely-operated, for extreme underwater exploration.

Size matters

At 182.9m (600ft) expedition yacht REV OCEAN is set to be larger than the luxury behemoth AZZAM, currently the world’s largest superyacht at 181m (593ft).

MY Rev Ocean

The owner and REV Ocean team have been open about their desire to break records and generate a media storm within the superyacht industry and beyond, thus providing the perfect platform upon which to promote their dedicated mission for change.

Unique charter opportunities

Using the philosophy ‘charter with a purpose’, yacht REV OCEAN has a unique funding model to encourage guests to effectively invest in the project by chartering the yacht for a ‘once-in-a-lifetime immersive and educational experience’. The money raised through yacht charters is hoped to fund their innovative research efforts, allowing them to explore further and deeper than ever before.

MY Rev Ocean

Charter guests can still expect to receive a luxury 6-star service, delivered by a professional crew, and will have a host of areas dedicated to their utmost comfort and relaxation.

REV OCEAN’s interior spaces are currently being penned by H2 Design, who have confirmed a Scandanvian minimalist approach, coupled with all the usual yacht charter amenities expected of a yacht of this calibre, including extensive wellness facilities, well-equipped gymnasium, luxurious accommodation and 3 swimming pools.

Model of Rev Ocean

As you would expect, expedition yacht REV OCEAN will also boast a vast array of 'green' credentials, such as an environmentally-friendly high-tech incinerator for disposing of waste and plastics, fuel-optimisation to reduce her carbon footprint and heat recovery system for eco-conscious charterers.

Where is she expected to charter?

Following her completion, it is anticipated that REV OCEAN will set off on her maiden voyage to Svalbard for her first scientific mission. Afterwards, she will head south towards the Caribbean Sea, Central America and Panama.

She will then set a course for the spectacular Galapagos Islands, which will provide fantastic opportunities for both charter guests and researchers to gain insight into some of the most astonishing and abundant marine life on the planet.
