New Zealand Millennium Cup Officially Underway

By Oliver Pearson   27 January 2016

Following a warm reception, the premier regatta in the South Pacific is officially underway, with sailing yachts set to race around the Bay of Islands for the next two days.

With his booming and iconic voice travelling over the airwaves, sports presenter Peter Montgomery declared this year’s New Zealand Millennium Cup underway.

Welcoming owners and crews, the opening ceremony marks the start of one of the most anticipated dates in the New Zealand yachting calendar.

Charter yachts such as the 27m/89ft sailing yacht KEALOHA, as well more seasoned veterans like the 34m/110ft sailing yacht SILVERTIP are amongst the entrants this year, two vessels which will confidently meet the expectations of the excited crowds.

Whilst the racing is sure to keep the crowds totally immersed, it’s also an opportunity to see some charter yachts in action, and consider what it might be like to enter a regatta.

One charter yacht keen to showcase her finesse this year is the dynamic 33m/108ft sailing yacht SHAMOUN. Utilising her seriously impressive performance capabilities, she’ll offer stiff competition, flexing her engineering as well as showing off her outstanding exterior styling.

Competing in such an attractive environment is also sure to get people talking about the emerging significance of New Zealand in the yachting world.

Of course, as more news comes in regarding the winners of this year’s races, we’ll be sure to let you know.

As much about the winners as it is the joys of a regatta, the New Zealand Millennium Cup is sure to get people thinking about a more adventurous charter this year
