Dubai International Boat Show 2018 draws to a close

By Rebecca Bradbury   5 March 2018

The 26th Dubai International Boat Show, held at a new location on the Dubai Canal in Jumeirah, drew to a close at the weekend following five days of superyacht showcases, marine-related exhibits and water sport demonstrations.

Getting underway at its new home on 28th February, DIBS 2018 was officially opened by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority.

All eyes were on the new venue after the show had to relocate at short notice from the Dubai International Marine Club, its home since 2005.

The show’s infrastructure, however, was fully operational and completed in record time, with initial reports from exhibitors indicating they were very pleased with the new setup.

Among the facilities that had to be constructed was a temporary 100-berth marina and all its slots were used to accommodate the impressive on-water display of yachts.

Among the most impressive in attendance were the 86m/282ft charter yacht CHAKRA and the recently refitted 72m/236ft charter yacht SERENITY from Austal.

Around 60 boats, dinghies and personal watercraft were accommodated on land, alongside a considerable number of exhibits from equipment, engine and service providers. In total, there was 450 exhibitors, representing 800 marine industry brands.

Other highlights of this year's Dubai International Boat Show included a Nikki Beach Lounge, sailing experiences, water sport stunts and taster sessions, live entertainment and food and drink stalls.

DIBS has become the main show and industry networking event for the Middle East boating market since it launched in 1992. It supports the burgeoning interest in superyachts in Dubai and throughout the region.
