The Newport Jazz Festival is one of Rhode Island's most important musical events and is held annually in August.
The Newport Jazz Festival dates back to 1954 and has showcased a plethora of jazz celebrities, including Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald and Wynton Marsalis.
The Festival consist of three stages on the peninsula of Fort Adams State Park: the big Fort Stage, the Quad Stage, and the Harbor Stage. Small tents provide shelter for several hundred people at both the Harbor and Quad stages, but the Fort crowd has no shelter.
As the world of jazz continues to grow, the festival strives to bring new talent into the limelight, to ensure their legacy remains vibrant and healthy.
