Guide to Villasimius

Panoramic mountain-views and miles of white sand beaches

The coastal town of Villasimius in the south of Sardinia is a Mediterranean paradise. It’s known as the pearl of the south for its crown of white sandy beaches that are considered some of the best on the island, interrupted with forest-covered cliffs.

Villasimius is found 31 miles south of Cagliari, stretching between the mountain chain of the Seven Brothers (Sette Fratelli) to the coasts of the Capo Carbonara Promontory and is all part of the Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara. While the panoramic mountainous view are truly spectacular as you cruise the coastline on your Mediterranean charter yacht, it’s the beaches that are the main attraction on land.

There are around 20 beaches to choose from amongst 20 miles of Villasimius coast along with two of its own islands - l'Isola dei Cavoli, or Cabbage Island and Isola di Serpentara. Of these beaches, a few really stand out and on the eastern side is Porto Giunco, famous for its dazzlingly clear waters and pink flamingoes that nest in its Molentargius lagoon all watched over by an Aragonese tower. Around 3 km from the town centre is Old Fortress beach - a crescent of golden sand that is rarely busy and offers shelter from the Mistral winds and a spectacular spot to watch the sun set.

The town of Villasimius itself is a former fishing village turned Sardinian summer hot spot. Its historic centre and main piazza is full of great restaurants and cafes to enjoy and wonder through during the day and the town is known for its lively nightlife. The surrounding mountainous terrain also offers plenty of walking trails whilst the crystalline waters are perfect for snorkelling and diving.

Villasimius offers an all-round yacht charter itinerary stop-off in Sardinia that includes famously beautiful beaches, Mediterranean settings that could be mistaken for the Caribbean and plenty of entertainment on shore.
