A new law has been passed to preserve the underwater utopia that surrounds the archipelago of Palau, which makes this tiny cluster of idyllic yet mysterious islands an even more attractive destination for a luxury yacht charter.
Scattered across the northwest of the Pacific Ocean, the 500 islands that comprise what is officially known as the Republic of Palau are surrounded by beautiful sapphire-coloured ocean channels, responsible for the nation repeatedly being rated as the world’s number one diving destination.
The reason for such an accolade is obvious – the water houses some of the most bountiful and accessible coral reefs, and abundant fish populations that can ever be seen. In fact, there is more coral fish and invertebrates per square mile of ocean habitat here than anywhere else in the world.
By introducing a new law that bans commercial fishing, Palau has created a National Marine Sanctuary that spans across 230,000 square miles – roughly the same size as France - and protects more than 1,300 species of fish and 700 coral species.
This is fantastic news for yacht charters in the region as it offers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explored unparalleled dive and snorkel locations.
Marine life in Palau waters ranges from bizarre coral species and giant clams to peach-pink jelly fish, manta rays and turtles, not forgetting the multitude of fascinating tropical fish and the intriguing mangroves that twist their way out of the white sandy sea beds.

On land, jungle-clad mountains create dramatic vistas and exciting exploration opportunities, and deserted palm tree-lined beaches offer idyllic beach escapes. Plus, the national cuisine is renowned for its delicious flavours.
