7 of 10

A national park covering 1,013 hectares, Lizard Island is an exclusive resort island situated in the north of the Great Barrier Reef, with 24 powdery white beaches for your enjoyment. Named by Captain Cook in 1770 after its large population of goannas, Lizard Island is located nearby Cod Hole, a world-famous community of huge Potato Cod. Highlights of the island include a coral reef research facility, beachside dining, luxury spa facilities, and a self-guided nature walk to the 359-metre-high Cooks Look, which offers 360-degree views across the ocean.
