Organised by the YCCS and Boat International Media, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta attracts an ever-increasing fleet of luxury sailing yachts.

Modern and classic, performance and cruising vessels have head for the emerald waters of Sardinia, intent on four days of exhilarating sailing. The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta plays host to a maximum of thirty of the world’s largest and most beautiful sailing yachts. They proceed to take spectacular courses winding their way through through Sardinia's islands - the La Maddalena archipelago.

Now in its eighth year, the regatta is held annually and is renowned for the high calibre of participating yachts as well as for the social aspects of the event, organised by the sponsors, that get underway shore-side.

Participating yachts this year include the 55-metre Vitters yacht Marie, winner of the Caribbean edition of the event held in March this year and the modern racer-cruiser WinWin launched in 2014 from the Baltic shipyard. The whole fleet is placed into three categories, each with separate starts and scoring. Each category must race according to the newly introduced ORCSy rating rule which came into force at the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta & Rendezvous earlier this year. The vessels of 45-metres and over will be categorised together, as will the many of the performance yachts, while the smaller yachts compete in their own category.

Regatta regular 46-metre Vitters yacht Ganesha, having been victorious in last week’s Dubois Cup at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will be in appearance and debut competitors include the newly-launched Maegan, an Oyster 825.

The yacht owners who are competing in the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta make it their mission to ensure they enlist the best sailing talent to bring about victory. This week’s crew lists include renowned yachtsmen such as Tony Rey calling the shots on Marie and the Danish match race champion, Jepser Radich, tactician of the 45-metre Wally Saudade. Mr Pier Luigi Loro Piana will sail on his My Song with his regular race crew that includes the Italian America’s Cup veteran Tommaso Chieffi on tactics.

The social atmosphere will emphasise the excitement on the water with daily after-race drinks, a cocktail competition and a gala dinner.The entire event will conclude with a spectacular prize giving ceremony on Saturday 6th June.
