It wouldn't be the Fourth of July in New York City without the annual fireworks and Macey's puts on a show like no other, featuring over 40,000 effects exploding in a synchronised, 25 minute long, pyrotechnic display.
The 38th annual firework display will take place over the Hudson River off the West side of Manahattan. Fired from four barges positioned between approximately 24th and 40th streets on the river, the display will begin at around 21:25 and will be choreographed to a rousing score of pop and country music as well as some American favourites.
Optimal viewing spots will be on 12th Avenue between 23rd and 42nd street, but anywhere with a good view of the Hudson will provide decent views. If you're planning on getting right into the action, it is best to get there by 17:00 to bag a good spot.
Specatators lined long the public viewing areas can tune in to radio stations 1010 WINS-AM or Z-100 FM to hear the music for the display. Elsewhere across the country, Independence Day revelers can see the action on NBC-TV's two hour special that commences at 20:00 ET.
